Do not insist on a Laparoscopic Surgery if your surgeon advices against it.

Stop Smoking atleast a month prior & a month after your surgery

Asthma/COPD, Hypertension, Diabetes etc are under strict control immediately prior to surgery. Post Surgery monitor Sugars & Blood pressure at home.

Loose weight & Go on a very Low carbohydrate/fat diet, especially for upper abdominal surgery

Start  light meals 3 days before  to Surgery & upto a week after the surgery with lots of liquids.

Post Surgery Deep breathing exercises & walking are a must - These two simple measures would prevent alot of major complications

Use laxatives generously for about a week after surgery if patient have constipation and indigestion issue. 

Sitting on floor, squatting, lifting heavy weights is to be avoided for upto 6 weeks

Demand pain killers if pain is the limiting factor to your activities.

If patient have any other  problem like prostate, and any urinary problem tell to doctor prior the surgery.
